Story
Richard Garrett and Emma Le Brocq married on 19th December 1992. Their married life took them from Australia to Bedford via Northern Ireland and Bahrain and they had 5 children along the way who are now aged 14,16,18, 20 and 21.
They spent many happy holidays in Jersey with the family, staying with Emma's parents, Philip and Jurat Sally Le Brocq, often with Emma's sister Belinda (Aunty B).
Tragically Richard died on 22nd December 2018, just after the couple celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary. He had battled with bowel cancer for 9 years. He was just 51 when he died. Throughout his illness Richard remained positive, courageous and good-humoured as he underwent numerous rounds of radiotherapy and chemotherapy as well as surgery. He fundraised for, and became friends with Stephanie Moore who set up the Bobby Moore Fund as part of Cancer Research UK in memory of her husband, the footballer Bobby who also died aged only 51 of bowel cancer.
Family and friends have now pledged to raise £51,000 in the coming months by undertaking 51 Challenges in order to raise money for cancer research and to support the hospice where Rich died.
Rich first visited Jersey on holiday in 1985, and he was hooked! He loved food, he loved family and he loved fizz and Jersey was a celebration of all of these things for him. Emma and Belinda have decided to walk from one of his favourite restaurants, El Tico at St Ouen along the north coast path to another of his favourite restaurants, Suma’s in Gorey on Saturday 22nd June - the walk is approximately 26 miles..
The sisters are aiming to raise £1,000 for the Bobby Moore Fund on this challenge in Rich's memory, and welcome any donations.
