Story
Every year I like to challenge myself, and in doing so to raise what ever money I can for a charity I care about - Sightsavers International. This year, along with friends Alex and Becky ( and supported by Stuart) I'm going to run the length of the Roman-era Antonine Wall, across Scotland, west coast to east coast, 73km, over two days. It's gonna hurt.
As a photographer my sight and vision is paramount to my work, therefore Sightsavers charity is obviously dear to me, and I like to help them in their work. Sightsavers work to combat preventable blindness in developing countries, restoring sight through specialist treatment and eye care. They also support people who are irreversibly blind by providing education, counselling and training. They help the people who need it most - those living in poverty in some of the world's poorest countries. Even small donations can have a huge impact on someone's life - £20 can treat and protect 133 people from trachoma, or £28 provides treatment to prevent a community losing their sight to river blindness, £120 can fund a cataract operation to give an child back their sight and provide them with aftercare - think of the opportunities that child can then go on to have!
I appreciate times are tough for a lot of us, but please think how tough it'd be if you live in the developing world and can't see, and can't work to feed your family. So please if you can, donate now. I appreciate many of you have sponsored me in the past, thank you!, and I try not to ask too often, only once every two years! Every contribution helps - the price of a cappuccino, the price of a pint of beer - we can afford that right? - it can mean the difference between someone seeing or not seeing, a child having opportunities in life or not.
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. The target of £730? - that's £10 for every kilometre we'll run. Can you help us smash that target? Your generosity will inspire Becky and Alex and I when the going gets tough, when our legs ache, or the rain comes on. But that hardship is nothing compared to being avoidably blind.
Any questions let me know! Thank you,
Jeremy, Alex, Becky and Stuart
