Story
I'm running the 2023 Royal Parks Half Marathon!
Thanks for supporting my fundraising. I am aiming to raise money for Safe Lives and help to generate awareness of the great work that they do every day to end domestic abuse.
Choosing Safe Lives to support was important to me because I fervently believe that no one should have to live their lives in fear. Over two million people here in the UK experience domestic abuse each year, a staggering and unacceptable number.
I believe that ending domestic abuse requires men and boys to be part of the conversation and, as a man, I feel a great responsibility to actively raise awareness and participation amongst other men. If as a society we are to truly stop the abuse then we must engage with men and boys about their attitudes and behaviours and act before others come to harm.
Running a half marathon is a personal challenge for me. Many years ago I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease where my body attacks my muscles. It wasn't until the pandemic, that I overcame the mental hurdle associated with this diagnosis, and took the first steps to running again. Over the past few weeks I have accelerated my training (although not my speed) and hope to complete the course in a little over two hours.
Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated as is the time you've taken to learn a little about Safe Lives - more of which you can discover at safelives.org.uk.
