Story
Hello!
We are riding in the London Surrey 100 mile bike ride in support of BRACE - Alzheimer's Research on Sunday 10th August 2014
Gary participated and supported BRACE by riding in last year's London Surrey event.
Alzheimer's, the wider group of conditions known as dementia, affect many people not only the older generation. Indeed, many partners and families experience the illness first hand when relatives suffer from the illness, particularly in the early stages of diagnosis. In many cases there is little support for partners and/or families of people diagnosed with the disease.
Why is Jeremy joining Gary this year?
My father was diagnosed some 5 years ago and is now in full-time care. Despite being physically active and capable, simple every day tasks became difficult and presented a risk to his own well being. Until diagnosed and a care home allocated, there was little local support, indeed this resulted in a move from Devon to Yorkshire, to receive direct support by my brother and his family.
We are aware that there are many people who have taken up cycling in recent years and look for support of a sponsored event. Therefore we have a modest target and small donations would be appreciated so we can provide a contribution to this charity based at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol who fund research at a number of universities in the West of England and Wales.
Please help us to support the amazing work they do.
Thank you.
