Story
On Sunday 2nd October I will be running the TCS London Marathon for Ovarian Cancer Action in memory of an amazing lady.
This is my first marathon and although I consider myself a fair runner, please make no mistake that running 26.2 miles is a HUGE challenge for me!
Anyone that knows me knows that a couple of years ago, I would never agree to something like this as the very thought of even running a mile would be laughable.
I will everyone updated with my training. The training runs will be long and tiresome so I need all of the help I can get, every donation counts!
A £3k fundraising target is a big ask but I hope through the support of family and friends I can get there :)
The Cause
Everyone I know has been affected by cancer in some way. I have decided to take on this amazing event in memory of a brave lady who was very special to me, my family and friends.
Our beloved friend Sharon was taken away from us far too soon and I hope that by raising my fundraising target that we can help ensure that others do not have to go through the same.
Pushing myself through 26.2miles of running doesn’t even come close to the braveness and dignity shown by Sharon, and the strength of Alan, Sophie, Alex and all her family, but I hope that through this challenge people will help support me, donate and contribute to vital research to rid the world of this awful disease.
The Charity
One woman dies in the UK from ovarian cancer every two hours. Ovarian Cancer Action is a charity that is very close to mine, my friends and family’s hearts. It is the UK’s leading ovarian cancer research charity, campaigning so that no one ignores the symptoms and funding scientific research. The four main symptoms of ovarian cancer of persistent stomach pain, persistent bloating, feeling full quickly and needing to wee more frequently can easily be attributed to other, less serious conditions such as IBS or the menopause. The sooner ovarian cancer is detected, the better the chance of survival.
