Thanks for visiting my page. If someone had told me at the start of the year I'd be training for not just a marathon, but the London marathon, by the end of it, I'd have laughed at you because I couldn't run even 1km! But through training for first the Race For Life and then the Great South Run, I've discovered that I really love running. So I've decided to take the ultimate challenge and run 26.2 miles through the streets of London, for the amazing charity Mind, whom I'm also running the Great South Run for.
My training can be followed on my blog, which can be found at www.jennyhiggs80.blogspot.co.uk
Mind is a charity which supports people who have mental health problems, and with over 25% of the British population suffering from mental illness over the course of a year, it is clear that mental health problems are more prevalent than a lot of physical health problems. However, with the stigma attached to mental health, many people do not get the treatment and support they need, which is perhaps why the suicide rate in the UK is also alarmingly high. Mind works to provide support where it is needed, and stamp out the prejudices surrounding this issue.
I am proud to support Mind for the London Marathon, because having suffered from depression and anorexia a large proportion of my adult life, I have a great deal of respect for the work they do, and only wish I had been aware of them when I was at my most ill. Last year a friend of mine took her own life as a result of postnatal depression, and so many other friends and family members battle with mental health issues every day. I would be so grateful for any donations to support me in my fundraising. Even just a donation of £1 will make a difference to the overall total.
