Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Our historic churches are very special places, for all to enjoy. They are a feature of our landscape that we can easily take for granted. However, they are very expensive to maintain - they are heritage buildings, often listed, and require special craftsmanship to keep the stonework, windows and woodwork in good condition. The general running costs are high too, especially heating and insurance. With smaller congregations these days, it's increasingly difficult to raise funds to look after these wonderful, peaceful places, so that they remain living, active features of our local communities, especially in rural areas.
As Treasurer for our village church, St Michael's*, I know just how difficult it is to keep our churches open and every little helps, including my cycling efforts (more Miss Marple than Ms Trott). Of course, my pedalling is only effective if I can convert those cogs into cash.....with your very welcome donations....Please! Your money will be used wisely by the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust and some of it will go directly to St Michael's.
*St Michael's, is thought to have started out as a wooden church as early as the 7th or 8th century and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. There's evidence of a Norman church, built in the twelfth century, before the church was completely rebuilt, possibly following a fire, in the reign of Henry III (1215-72).
