Story
A quick story why I have decided to do something rather silly and say yes to running 26 miles by accepting a place to run for 'The Dystonia Society' in the Virgin 2015 London Marathon.
After being inspired from my brother who ran the VLM 2012 for the same charity, I too have teamed up with The Dystonia Society and I am ready to take on the challenge.
The reason I have chosen to run for The Dystonia Society is because learning that in 2011 my nephew, Aidan had developed a rare neurological disorder having seemingly developed normally up to 12 months, he is now 4 years of age. I hope to raise as much money in a bid to help children who suffer from a range of neurological disorders, by raising money into research for Dystonia.
Dystonia what? Let me explain. Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder, in which muscle contractions cause twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures. Treatment has been limited to minimizing the symptoms of the disorder, since there is no cure available. Dystonia can be a secondary feature of another disorder (like Ataxia Telangiectasia or Cerebral Palsy) or it can be a primary disorder in its own right. It is our hope that with advances in technology and better understanding of the brain, researchers will develop a range of treatments in the near future.
