Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Six years ago when I received the devastating news that I had breast cancer I set myself two goals which I hoped were realistically achievable. The first was simply to survive the gruelling treatment ahead and the second was to come out the other side and have some hair grown back by my 50th birthday! Having been lucky enough to achieve both those goals this year I felt it was time to set myself a new one, and inspired by watching the London Marathon back in March I set myself the challenge to run the Oxford Half on 13th October.
Having never been a runner I began tentatively with the couch to 5k programme and have gradually been building up the distances since then. It has not been easy! But I am nothing if not determined, and I am absolutely determined to make it to the finish line on 13th October.
I am one of the lucky ones to have cured my cancer for now. But I am only too aware that it could return at any time, as could any of my loved ones receive a diagnosis out of the blue. Two things are certain in life. We are born, and one day we are going to die. We all hope that when that day comes we are in a happy place, in as little pain as possible and are surrounded by love. We are so lucky to have the wonderful Sobell House Hospice on our doorstep in Oxford and it would give me enormous pleasure if you felt able to encourage me to drag my way to the finish line with the knowledge that in doing so I am helping in a small way to support the wonderful care that those at Sobell give to families in need.
