Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. below is a brief story of my journey so far.
On the 9th of January 2018 I saw Dr Pal in the neurology department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. I described my symptoms and he immediately advised me to stop driving. He believed I was having epileptic focal seizures and referred me for an EEG and an MRI to investigate further.
On the 26th of January I went for my first MRI scan at the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Glasgow. It wasn’t as scary as people made it out, however I was not prepared for the needle they stuck into my arm to place the canula.
Tuesday 6th February, I went back to see Dr Pal. I went myself as I had no idea what to expect at this time. He advised the result of my MRI showed a tumour and that I was being referred to Mr Kandasamy and his team at The Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. He would be in touch soon and the end goal would be to remove it.
After waiting what felt like an eternity, I was scheduled for surgery on 14th June at 9am. Surgery lasted around 6 hours and after an MRI it was confirmed that roughly 95% of the tumour was removed.
On the 15th June I suffered a stroke and ended up with left sided neglect (Hemiparesthesia),in my arm and leg. This hindered recovery as I had to learn how to walk again before I would be allowed home. I spent my days in Ward 33 in the Western General Hospital, under the care of a fantastic team of nurses. The physiotherapy team were very impressed with my determination to get home. Before I could be discharged, I was sent for a vision field test which reported that I have quadrantanopia in both eyes, effecting the upper left side of my sight. (This would later lead to Charles Bonnet Syndrome). This wasn’t major enough to keep me in the hospital, and 8 days after surgery I was free to go home.
