Story
All in the name of a GREAT cause! I often find that I get caught up in fundraising / volunteering for those less fortunate than myself by looking to far flung shores. Being from the North East of England, and having lived in London for almost 6 years now I feel like I want to do something to help the young people of both Geordieland and those who live in the best city in the world, so I cannot think of a better way to do it than to raise money for CentrePoint. There are many reasons why 80,000 people experience homelessness each year including family breakdowns, addiction, mental illness and abuse to name just a few. CentrePoint provides a safe place for young people aged between 16-25 to live, they equip them with the skills they need to reenter education or employment, offer short and long term counseling to treat depression / anxiety / thoughts of hopelessness, and continue to encourage and support them once they are ready to move on. This year on November, 7th, I will be taking part in London’s flagship Sleep Out in Exchange Square, Broadgate. 100s of people will take to the streets to sleep without shelter and to experience the suffering these young people go through, daily. The idea is to raise as much money as possible for the charity and show solidarity for homeless young people, however we will be provided with boxes to sleep in and it will be in a secure environment so it will not match the sense of danger and hunger which affects the homeless. I hope that many of you will also see this as a worthwhile cause and spare a few pennies to help the young people who have not had as fortunate a start into adulthood as ourselves. THANK YOU!!! J
