Story
As most of you know, last year was a weird one for me. I was diagnosed with a rare (one in a million) cancer called pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) and had to undergo extensive, nine-hour surgery to rid me of the disease, which had spread all throughout my abdomen. I spent 21 painful days in hospital, and many more weeks prior to and beyond this feeling anxious and scared.
The amazing people at Pseudomyxoma Survivor, through their online community, supported me all throughout the lead-up to, during, and after my ordeal. The charity enabled me to make contact with others who had gone through the same thing. Those people offered me an incredible amount of support, advice and reassurance that helped me stay positive and gave me strength when I needed it most.
The charity is also dedicated to raising funds for research into this extremely rare disease.
There's not much money out there for a cancer with such a tiny number of patients. We need support and help in raising money and awareness of the disease. Those of us who've survived want to help others going through it, so we've come together to create the Pseudomyxoma Survivor Marathon Challenge event!
Even though most of us won't be covering the 26 miles in one day, we've committed to doing it over a period of time that will be a personal challenge for us. I'm aiming for at least seven miles per week. (As a bonus, the exercise will also help me get back to full strength again!)
One amazing member of our team - Julie - has committed to running the FULL London Marathon for Pseudomyxoma Survivor, and we will be there on the day, waving banners and cheering her on!
