Story

As many of you know I am heading back out to Kenya to Open Arms Childrens Village for 6 weeks in summer!1

Open Arms is an incredible Village that is home to over 130 children, most of whom have been orphaned,abandoned, or removed from homes due to neglect or abuse. Many of the children come form the slums that surrounds Elderot. They also have feeeding programes that feed over 500 children in the Ambio Tesio slum.

Open arms brings these children into a loving environment where they have 2 Kenyan parents and loving brothers and sisters. It is place of Joy and true restoration.

It is such a inspiring place and the lives of these beautiful children are massively transformed.

Abit of history...

David and Rachel Gallagher started off in 2008 in two mud huts. The growth has been miraculous over the past 8 years;
they now have 8 family homes with 20 children in each, a baby home, a primary school and small farm. The small farm holding has 9 cows which they milk each day to provide the milk for the children; they have over a 1000 chickens which provide eggs and meat. They harvest about 800 eggs per day and sell the excess to the local community to gain profit. They also have many maze fields and allotments which provide the grain and vegetables for the children. They are also building a fish farm that will provide fish for the children and the local community. They have 250 pupils in the primary school. 120 are the Open Arms children and the others are from the local community. They have a bakery which also provides an income and enables the children who need more vocational training to be taught baking and cooking skills. They are building a mill grinder to create maize grain, which the local community will also be able to hire out, thereby becoming a source of income too. This project is also being used as vocational training for many of the boys in the village. They are currently building a 3 story medical clinic that will be permanent in the village; this is to serve the local community as well as the children in the village. They will have the walk-in clinic with a doctors and nurses team, pharmacy, 3 wards (male, female and children’s) for severe cases to stay for up to 3 days, X-ray facilities and a lab. The vision is amazing, this service will be the best for miles around, it will also become a massive employer for the local community. The facilities will be of a high standard as they then last longer and are sustainable.The vision goes further than the medical clinic. Once that is up and running, they wish to move the primary school to a bigger area just down the road to the village so they can also build a secondary school. Currently they have to send the OAV children to boarding schools. They would love to be able to serve the
community around the village by providing higher education. As you can see OA employ a sustainable approach which ensures excellence is attained. This enables volunteers and donators to be confident that they are investing their time and money into a project that is really changing and making huge impact to the local community in Eldoret.

 I will be living in the childrens village and working alongside Rachel in setting up the perminant medical clinic, we also are runningg a pop up medical clinic in Kip Karen in the local slum.

This amzing vision is only a reality because of the generosity of people like you. Please Please dig deep and give what you can because ...

...Together we can Transform Africa One life at a time..
