Story
I am running the 2022 London marathon in memory of Mum and Dad. They loved Malawi and were passionate about education. They nominated Mamie Martin as their charity of choice and currently 6 girls are being supported by The Thompson Fund through their education.
Dad was an amazing marathon runner and I am hoping he would have appreciated my grit and determination if not my speed!!
I would be really grateful for any donations that you feel able to make to support the work of The Thompson fund and encourage me when my legs are tired.
The Thompson Fund supports deaf girls at secondary school in Embangweni, North Malawi, in memory of Jack and Phyllis. This fund is managed by the Mamie Martin Fund, a Scottish charity which supports girls' education in North Malawi. Jack and Phyllis Thompson first arrived in Malawi in 1970 when Jack was appointed as a teacher at Livingstonia Secondary School and they both became fully involved in the life of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia. Through classroom teaching, historical research, postgraduate supervision, educational leadership and, above all, through the friendships they formed with Malawian colleagues and students, Jack and Phyllis made an impact that will long be cherished. Jack died in 2017 and Phyllis in 2018, their loss greatly mourned both in Malawi and in the UK.
