Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
During my two weeks in the Dominican Republic, I will be working near Sosua, close to Puerto Plata, in the north of the island, helping the Samaritans Trust build new homes for the slum dwellers. Sugar companies bring men in from Haiti to work the sugar cane fields and, over the years, entire Haitian families have ended up living in the fields. Their houses are no more than sticks and rubble and their food basic and meagre. Some are able to rent small cubicles but these are only the size of a wardrobe and are hot and insanitary. However, this is all people can afford on incomes of less than 60 pence per day. By building new homes, we help those living in desperate circumstances to escape from the hopelessness they currently face.I am doing a sponsored walk up Snowdon on the 29th/30th May and my brothers are taking part in the London Triathlon this August to raise money for Mission Direct. Any amount you donate will go to the project in the Dominican Republic.
Alternatively, there is a list of items which are urgently needed for other projects in the Dominican Republic. So if you would rather buy or donate any of the items below, please forward them on to myself. Some can be purchased at the pound shop.
