Jennifer's Everest Base Camp 2022

Thank you for visiting my page!
In 2020, when I'd had a couple of glasses of wine, a friend of mine
suggested walking to Everest Base Camp would be fun. I was somewhat over-enthusiastic, and signed up straight away, with no idea whatsoever what was involved.
I didn't quite appreciate at the time what a huge physical and mental
challenge this would be. It is a 16 day trek, at an altitude which makes this a little more demanding than a Sunday stroll to the park.
Although it will be a lovely break, it is also tough being away from the
family for three weeks. I am extremely nervous flier and the runway in Lukla, where I start the trek from, is on the edge of a cliff!
None of these challenges compare to those experienced by several remarkable individuals I have known, who are sadly no longer with us. One of these is Rob Metcalfe, who I met online
on an Everest Facebook page when I was frantically google searching 'how hilly is the walk to Base Camp'. Rob was an incredible human who personally had a profound impact on my life. He would have done anything to get to see Everest Base Camp himself, and so this challenge is to honour him, as well as so many others who have personally experienced living with Sarcoma.
I am supporting Sarcoma UK, a national charity that funds vital
research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments. Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and soft tissue. It is difficult to diagnose and one of the hardest to treat. By supporting me, we can help change this. Your donation will help researchers find answers, keep our Support Line open, and raise awareness to improve treatment and standards of care. Thank you for your support.
