Story
On Saturday 8 June I will be running a half marathon round Bewl reservoir to help Lily Watkins, Esther’s school buddy raise funds for the charity JIA-at-NRAS (Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis at The National Rheumatic Arthritis Society). While I run Lily will be simultaneously walking the 13 mile route with many of her friends!
Let me tell you a little more about Lily and also the condition JIA...
Lily is one of the kindest and most thoughtful young ladies, I know. She is always smiling, helpful and up for any new challenge. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her cry or heard her moan. What is extraordinary about this, is that she lives with JIA and has done so since she was 3 years old. The pain, inflammation and discomfort she is in on a daily basis, has never dulled the sparkle in her eyes or her enthusiasm to get involved in anything.
JIA is one of the most common causes of physical disability in childhood yet many people are unaware children can get inflammatory arthritis. Approximately 12,000 children and young people in the UK have JIA which represents 1 child in every 1000 under the age of 16.
Lily doesn’t shy away from anything and always gives her all. So in honour of Lily and to show my support of JIA-at-NRAS, I will be wearing purple and running the full perimeter of Bewl as fast as I can.
Any donation would be hugely appreciated and will motivate me to get my trainers back on and actually start training for it 😆
