Story
I don't know about you, but every year I see many appeals from charities asking me to help children at home and abroad, and every time I see one of these appeals my heart breaks and I feel so helpless that I can't ease the suffering of these beautiful children and their parents. Tearfund is a charity I have supported in the past and they regularly send me updates. I have received letters from them recently with pictures on them of children in Yemen who would be the same age as my own daughters. They have lost everything and don't even have enough food or clean water to survive, plus they have the constant threat of war and disease, and the grief of having lost so many loved ones. Tearfund are out there doing as much as they can to help. I'm not able to physically go there to help and I don't have loads of money to give, but I have legs that can run and the love of a challenge that can help me to raise some money.
Running has always been there for me through good times and a few not so good times. So I'm planning on running 12 half marathons in 12 months. One a month. It will be a huge challenge for me to maintain that level of fitness and consistency across the whole year. The halves won't necessarily be official/timed events (I'm trying to make money, not spend it!) but will often be routes I have planned myself in various locations. I'm hoping that others may join me for part or all of some of the runs, that maybe some people will also take up the challenge of training for 10k or 13.1 miles and come out with me for their chosen distance. All I'd ask is that they'd also be raising money for Tearfund.
So please, give if you can to this fantastic charity. Any support you can offer will help enormously and will spur me on to complete this challenge which currently feels quite overwhelming. I have deliberated for a number of weeks as to whether to do this at all, but what it comes down to is that Tearfund is a charity that is on my heart and any sacrifice I make in time or energy is nothing compared to what these children endure every day. Any donation you make will be a huge boost to me and could mean everything to them. Thank you!
