Story
It wasn’t until I started with Pequot that I really began to understand why it is so unique - even beyond its storied ambiance, it’s history, the dedication of its staff to all patrons, and it’s *exemplary* programming, the access to and knowledge around its Special Collections is an especially incredible gift to our community.
The fact that these rare primary source materials are accessible to anyone who wants to experience them is amazing at levels I never could have comprehended before engaging with the materials in my own work there. I am a photographer by trade, and always joke that I never thought I’d end up taking pictures of rare, old books. But the time, energy, and passion put into the Special Collections and subsequent programming make it impossible to not fall in love with the subject oneself. And I know the library staff are having the same effect in every student or visitor that comes through the doors to talk about Shakespeare or Paine while beholding their original works. How lucky are we to experience that right in our back yard?
I hope you will join me in supporting Pequot Library as it’s fiscal year comes to a close during such an uncertain time.. It is so critical. Due to COVID-19 and the temporary closure of Pequot, several of the Library's major events have been cancelled or post-poned. For a library that raises 80% of its operating budget through fundraising, these losses will have a substantial impact on the Library's collections and programs - but we can help!
Make a donation today and you will be providing the vital funds to support storytimes, author talks, exhibitions, books for patrons, scholarly research, volunteer opportunities, student experiences, Pequot Library's invaluable Special Collections of rare books, and so much more! Thank you!
