******UPDATE **********
I did it I ran the London Marathon..
I am about to start training for one of the biggest events of my life, this isn’t going to be easy but I have watched recently 2 very important people in my life battle things for very different reasons and it’s knowing their fight through no choice of their own will keep me going. I have promised both of them I will start and finish the marathon what goes on in between is anyone’s guess.
After a lot of soul searching about which charity I should do this for it always came back to the same one that I am most passionate about that isn’t to say the others are any less important but for me MIND is a very valuable and much needed charity.
I have come to learn very quickly over the last few years that any help for people with mental health issues especially young adults is nearly none existent. Everything is a fight. As a family we started our own fight just over 12 months ago, referral via the NHS added us to a
12-18month waiting list just to be assessed it was MIND that we then turned to and they helped fill the gap and provide us with some much needed tools.
I want to start to make mental health a normal conversation, I want people to be able to say how they are feeling just as you would if you were unwell from any other illness. The stigma that is attached to
mental health is part of the reason so many people suffer in silence and that needs to stop.
I want people to know it’s ok not to be ok.
So I am running the London Marathon (that still sounds really weird me a 40+ year old woman running a marathon) and I’m hoping to raise some money to help keep MIND going so that other families also have somewhere to turn.
