I am cutting my hair, which I have been growing since my wonderful mum passed away nearly three years ago, so it can be made into a real hair wig for a child who has lost their hair through chemo.
My aim is to raise £350 which is the cost of one of these wig.
My mum lost her hair rapidly after one chemo session and the NHS wig she was given was a lifeline. Her hair was her crowing glory and so losing it was devastating onto top of the diagnosis. I saw the wig transform her daily life so she could cope with the effects of chemo. Mum wanted to get on with living life and not be defined by her cancer.
None of us can predict when cancer will strike and much less prevent it. Growing my hair and donating it is just one small thing I can do to help someone who has lost their hair through chemo.
My hairdresser, who works with the Little Princess Trust, regularly visits the children's oncology ward at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge to trim and style the real hair wigs. The smiles he sees and the confidence a great haircut can give a young person is a sight to behold.
I do hope you will be able to give what you can.
Much love, Jen x
