Story
Fifteen months ago my wonderful Dad was heartbreakingly diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma skin cancer.
My Dad was a truly special person who lived his life to the full. He was an amazing Dad who always put others first and he's leaving the biggest hole in our hearts.
Throughout his illness, he courageously battled through numerous treatments, including radiotherapy, immunotherapy and chemotherapy. He was even given the opportunity to participate in a world leading clinical trial at Northern Centre for Cancer Care, ran by the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation at the Freeman Hospital.
Sir Bobby Robson launched his Foundation to help find more effective ways to detect and treat cancer, after a request for help from his oncologist Professor Ruth Plummer. She was treating Sir Bobby as he faced cancer for the fifth and what he knew would be the final time. She needed to raise £500,000 to equip a new cancer drug trials centre at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care in Newcastle and asked him if he knew anyone who might like to donate. Sir Bobby responded by launching this amazing charity to get the money she needed.
Ruth Plummer was also my Dad's oncologist and she could not have supported my family more, providing hope and positivity on the darkest of days.
One of my Dad's final wishes was that, in his memory, donations be made to support Ruth and her fantastic team, hopefully enabling them to develop life changing treatments to combat this horrific disease.
Thank you very much for your support ❤️
