Story
On September the 15th, 2013, I am running the Great North Run in aid of the charity Macmillan Cancer Care. For those of you who may or may not know, I lost my Mum to cancer in June last year. As hard as this has been, the support and services provided by charities such as Macmillan and Marie Curie were outstanding, and I know that without them it would have been a lot harder for both my Mum and the rest of my family to cope. I decided to choose Macmillan as the charity to run for as we gave the collection from my Mum's service to Marie Curie, and I felt that it only fair to recognise the work of Macmillan as well.
Macmillan Cancer Care provide practical, medical and financial support to both those with cancer and their families, providing nurses and counsellors who are experienced in dealing with a variety of different cancer types, and thus are able to answer any questions and provide support at any time it is needed. (They also have a really good website: http://www.macmillan.org.uk).
I wanted to do something that would challenge me and the Great North Run is going to do just that! It's a half marathon (that's 13miles, or 20km!!!), and those of you who know me well will know that I have a 'slight' aversion to exercise, or anything that involves any kind of physical effort really. I am aiming to raise at least £400, so, for any of you who think Macmillan deserves donations, or who just want to see me suffer from now until the 15th of September, any donation would be greatly appreciated, and will go towards a fantastic cause.
Thanks! :)
