I am fundraising for the British Heart Foundation in Memory of My Grandad Anthony Snee.
My Grandad had his first heart attack & bypass graft surgery at the age of 54 (when I was only 18months old) - He survived this and I have a very fond childhood with lots of memories of my Grandad. 8 years later my Grandad suffered another heart attack and underwent another round of heart surgery - he got through this and he was back cheering me on at sporting events, picking me up from school & making me my favourite tea! In the years following his heart surgery he suffered heart attacks, angina and had numerous cardiac stents inserted - he would to tell me stories of how he watched them do it on a big screen whilst he was awake! (something I never believed until I became an Operating Department Practitioner, I thought Grandad was just being his usual self and kidding me!) In 2009 Grandad had a major cardiac arrest, he had a long down time (whilst a bystander did CPR). Miraculously he survived this (amazing both our family & even the doctors!) and went on to have a pacemaker and internal defibrillator fitted.
Sadly on Thursday 22nd October 2015 my Grandad passed away at the age of 79 after a long battle with heart failure.
Due to the amazing research, development of treatment, knowledge of heart failure & heart disease I've had 25 years that my Grandad has been able to be part of my life! This would not have been possible without the great work of the British heart foundation!
Coronary heart disease is still the UK's single biggest killer - there are hundreds of thousands of people living in the uk with heart failure.
Any contribution small or large wouldn't help with research into cardiovascular disease. From improvements in drugs to safer surgery. We all have a heart and I'm sure we want to protect it!
