Hi all, I joined the most incredible organisation in Jan 2020 called mothers2mothers (m2m). m2m trains and - critically - employs African women living with HIV to deliver health, hope and an HIV-free future. Born in response to gross inequalities, in the height of a deadly HIV epidemic, when black lives did not seem to matter to the world, m2m’s mission has never been more relevant or important than it is today. Around the globe, we all now understand what it means to fear the spread of a virus. m2m’s female healthcare workers have been fighting an epidemic on the frontline for 20 years. They are uniquely placed to fight COVID-19 in Africa, currently providing a life-line to one million women and children.
Cycle2Zero is an epic cycling adventure, undertaken by m2m's committed supporters. The challenge usually takes place in one of the African countries where we work, but this year due to travel restrictions caused by COVID-19, for the first time ever, the cycle will be virtual and open to everyone! Together we will collectively pedal 5,000km, and raise vital funds to support m2m's frontline health heroes - Mentor Mothers. Since m2m was founded in 2001 over 11 million women and children under the age of two have been reached with direct services, and over 11,000 jobs have been created for women living with HIV. Our dream is of a world where no mother dies of AIDS and no baby is born with HIV. We hope that Cycle2Zero@home can help not only turn the tide of COVID-19 in Africa but create healthy families free from HIV. Ending HIV is just the start.
