The Braithwaites have climbed
Mount
Kilimanjaro
We've got to £3488.60 it would be great to get to £3500!
Simon and I made it to the top of Mount Meru February 21st. It was a long hard climb up a very rocky steep ridge with sheer drops at either side but fantastic views from the top and we watched the sun rise over Kilimanjaro.
We reached the summit of Kilimanjaro at 5.35am on February 28th after a six hour trudge up an incredibly steep rocky path. We both felt great with no altitude sickness. We were the first to reach the summit that day and for 15 minutes were the highest people in the whole of Africa and Europe. It was an unbelievable experience, not one that I wish to repeat but we are glad we did it and the memories will be with us for ever.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
To celebrate me reaching the great age of 60 and in memory of family and friends who have not been so fortunate Simon and I are going to attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa (5896 m) on February 23rd 2010. We are also climbing Mount Meru which is only 4562m high! Simon thought we needed the practice.
To add to the challenge, and this is the hard bit, we would like to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support and for that we have to ask for your help.Macmillan is wonderful charitable organisation that gives so much emotional and practical support to both cancer sufferers and those close to them. They work closely with the NHS but are not government funded relying on the generosity of people like you to help them provide care for those in need.
Please, please don’t forget to make a donation, just think of me and Simon freezing and exhausted at the top (hopefully) of the mountain on February 28th.Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
