Story
I will never forget sitting in the Paediatrician's office that stiffness and wave of nausea that hit me when he asked if we had heard of Autisim. I remember vaguely that he drew three interlocking rings and explaining the spectrum to me but nothing sunk in during that initial shock. As soon as we got home we went on the internet and the first resource we came to was the NAS website. We have been back many times since looking for guidance and support with raising our eldest son. Eric is 9 years old now and though we struggle with communication difficulties on a daily basis he is still our special little boy.
I started running as a means of blowing off steam to reduce the stress of parenting an autistic child. Life with Eric is great, but sometimes I need a break to clear my mind and running has been that release for me.
So here is the part where I'm going to ask you to get your wallets and purses out. The National Autistic Society is a charity that without support would cease to be there for so many families like mine. I would ask that you take the time to donate if you can to help keep them there for the next family that goes into a doctors office and has their world tipped upside down. A lot of the time I don't understand Eric's world but the National Autistic Society have taught me how to work with him and given us the tools to give us some insight.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Thank you so much for your support,
Jennie
