Story
A team of volunteers will be heading out to Uganda in Summer 2023 to assist with transforming an empty field at an underpriveliged rural local school into an exciting new playgrounds bursting with colour and fun, leaving a legacy for children to learn and develop essential life skills and nurture their physical, psychological and social development through the language they know best - Play!
In June 2023, I will be going to Uganda for four weeks to build a playground at a rural school with no toys or play equipment. Within my Primary Education course, I am learning the importance of play in a child's educational upbringing. Through play, children build on communication and social skills. All of which are paramount to their cognitive, language and behavioural development. Playgrounds in developing African countries are a great way to encourage students to attend schools. An example of this would be, one school's number of students increased from 300 to 900 within a week of the playground construction beginning. The research exploring the impact of play and engagement on childhood development is demonstrating the impact on cognitive development, and this is something that I want to support for all children.
