I got an email today saying that this justgiving page was about to close and I decided to extend it. Charities like APP really need help, especially at this time.
They emailed to say they are part of the virtual running event in May, which means you can choose a distance and you have to run/ cycle it over the month of May.
I have chosen to do 100K in May, I will probably run 7-8 miles a week and do the rest on my bike.
Postpartum Psychosis is a severe mental illness which begins suddenly following childbirth and it can include hallucinations and delusions, often with mania, depression or confusion affecting over 1400 women experience each year in the UK (1 to 2 in every 1000 mothers).
An episode like this is very frightening for women and their families. Luckily most women go on to make a full recovery, however the journey to full recovery can be long and difficult and the health service is severely under pressure and under resourced despite best efforts from some of the amazing staff supporting these women.
An episode like this can affect a woman's confidence as a mother, their friendships, their relationships, their employment and even their relationship with their own child going forward.
I have nothing but the utmost respect for the strength that these women show as they battle to regain their sense of self as well as reconciling their roles as new mums. Recovery is hard, often unseen and rarely positively linear.
I cannot stress enough how in need we are for services and support to help those who experience serious trauma of this nature.
I'd like to think some small donation might help the charity to host events, bringing women together doing what they love such as music or art, or that it can promote awareness.
So, I hope you will consider donating, especially at this time.
Thanks
