Story
Thank you for supporting my TCS London Marathon journey with the British Heart Foundation. You all know that Sophie’s journey with HLHS has been pretty complicated and it continues to be so.
For those who don’t first off thank you so much for taking the time to view my page.
Sophie was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which basically means the left side of her heart doesn’t work properly. She has had surgery at 9days old, 9months old and 4years old. At 4 she suffered a major stroke where she had to relearn how to walk and talk again. Her time in hospital at this point was horrific. She suffered a huge burn on her shoulder from an MRI machine resulting in plastic surgery. Her chest wouldn’t heal so she had to go in to theatre every other day to have it cleaned and a machine fitted to help create new tissue. She’s had 2 emergency surgeries since then as her heart is deciding to do things her team haven’t seen happen before. As you can see Sophie likes to keep us on our toes.
She is amazingly strong and brave. I can’t really put into words how proud we are of her and our little family. They’re with me every step.
With your donations, we’re raising money for one of the most exciting fields of research - regenerative medicine. We're aiming to fund breakthroughs and find cutting edge new treatments for people living with heart disease. The race is on to heal hearts together. Donations to my page will be sent directly to the British Heart Foundation in a fast and secure way.
