Parachute Regiment veteran Jeffrey Long MBE, 90, has raised more than £300,000 for different charities through a number of walking challenges including a 650 mile walk from London to Switzerland, a 127 mile along the Leeds Liverpool Canal and a 96 mile walk for the Queen’s 96th birthday and Platinum Jubilee.
This September Jeffrey is taking on Mission 5000 and helping the MND Association cover 5000 miles, that's a mile for every person affected by MND in the UK. Jeffrey has been inspired by the stories of local sportsmen Stephen Darby and Rob Burrow who have bravely shared their experiences of life with MND. Jeffrey now hopes he can use his local walking celebrity status and do his best for the MND Association.
Jeffrey is finding life tough at present, normally he averages 15 miles a day when walking, but due to injuries only averaged 4 miles on his recent 96 and 190 mile charity walks. He’s TOUGH and is determined to get some miles in for MND.
Jeffrey's fundraising will be split 50:50 between the West Yorkshire Branch of the MND Association to support local people with by MND, their families and carers with the other half going towards MND research to help find a cure for this cruel disease.
