Story
I was diagnosed with ILD / IPF in April 2021.
This was a shock as I have never smoked, worked down a coal mine, kept pigeons or worked with Asbestos.
ILD is Interstitial Lung disease and IPF is Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
You can google it, but my advice is don’t. It’s not pleasant reading.
Essentially fibrosis is scarring within the lungs and reduces the lungs ability to transfer oxygen to the blood. My condition is progressive, meaning it’s getting worse.
The disease is terminal and currently there is no cure. There are some drugs that slow the progression of the disease which may prolong the inevitable.
So while I still can, I am attempting to do a 40K bike ride. From my house to Corfe Castle and back is 40K. I did this last year when I was a bit fitter and a 10K walk from (probably) Whitecliff to Upton Country Park. Good opportunity to walk the dog too.
I joined the APF (Action on Pulmonary Fibrosis) Charity last year. The APF aim to raise awareness and raise funding into research for treatment and hopefully a cure.
So if you contribute anything at all to help it would be much appreciated. Thanks!!
Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis (APF) is a growing community of patients, families, researchers and healthcare professionals striving to find a cure for pulmonary fibrosis so that everyone affected by the disease has a better future. We provide personalised support to patient and families - and raise awareness of pulmonary fibrosis through campaigning, fundraising and education. We are also committed to funding research to improve the quality of life for people living with pulmonary fibrosis today and tomorrow.
