Story
Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK. That's thousands of dads, granddads, brothers, partners and mates. That's why I’m joining Jeff Stelling’s Football March to help beat prostate cancer. This September, I'll be joining hundreds of football fans to walk a marathon with him and raising money to help beat prostate cancer. The money I raise will help to fund lifesaving research to save and improve the lives of men affected by prostate cancer.
Most people who know me will be aware of my story. Apart from losing a close friend to this wretched, indiscriminate disease at just 49 yrs old, my Grandad had it but passed with another cause, it took his brother, my great uncle and then my Dad. That put me at high risk and I was advised by my doctor to have yearly P.S.A.checks, something I promised my close friend I would do during a conversation we had just 2 days before he passed. One year it jumped up almost 2 points and following an all important early diagnosis, with the Cancer being contained, I opted to have a R.A.L.P. (Robot Assisted Laporoscopic Prostectomy) which thank goodness, was successful
Being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer doesn’t only affect the patient, it also affects his Wife/Partner/Family and Friends. All of which can make a phone call to PCUK and speak to someone about a question /fears they may have or maybe just for some advice. I learnt after my op that it was a service my Wife used rather than tax my spinning, fogged up brain and she found it very helpful.
Men, don’t bury your head in the sand, GET YOURSELF CHECKED, especially if there is history of it in your Dads family. A simple blood test may just save your life, it did mine.
I am more than happy to try and help raise funds for the incredible work PCUK do and this will be the second time some of my former work colleagues will be joining me in the effort, grateful thanks in advance chaps🤗
I know the current economical climate is not good but any amount you can spare will be put to good use,
Thank You.
