Story
It has been three years since we put on the ’58 Comeback Special at which we raised over £1300 for James’ Place. We know that this time we can do better.
Joining me on stage as The Ruby Tears will be my long time collaborators John Goodfellow and Mark Robson and Jim Sangster will also be holding down the rhythm section and adding some subtle, beautiful mayhem. This will be a one-off charity event and it will be a meagre £7 door fee, also accepting donations on the night and there will be merchandise on the night to support the artists themselves as we are all donating our time for this.
We are supporting James’ Place, a suicide support centre for men. As most of you know, I work in the touring music industry, selling merchandise for bands and shows around the world. Over the years I have lost a lot of friends and colleagues to suicide. You’d never know when they were on tour, when they were often the 'life and soul’, that they had any problems in their life. Everyone of them has surprised me. Having centres James’ Place helps reduce the amount of lost lives and with your help and donations, we can make a difference. Read about the work they do here. https://www.jamesplace.org.uk/
Ironically, another centre I approached three years ago were unable to accept my offer of support as they were having to close after 30 years due to lack of support. Help keep these services available when they are needed now more than ever.
This night will be held, upstairs at Leaf in Bold Street, Liverpool on 4th March 2022.
Alongside The Ruby Tears and making the trip down from Preston, will be Ginnel. They are a new and exciting post-punk primitive noise pysch outfit all hailing from in and around Preston Lancashire. Featuring members of The Common Cold, Big Red Bus, Notnowkato, Evil Blizzard and John Peel favourites, The Dandelion Adventure. Think Mark E. Smith fronting Gang of Four and you’ll be getting there.

Also, from Merseyside, we have Modern Marriage, a new three piece crossing styles from post-punk to new wave to indie-rock with high energy and a desire to be creative, entertaining, unique and interesting. They have been making a name for themselves since their first gig at the Cavern in support of Alan McGee’s spoken word tour back in December. Going from strength to strength and taking a break from recording to be with us, we are more than happy to have them.
