Story
In October 2013 Rich Smith, Martyn's brother and my cousin was struck down with a stroke leaving him paralysed down one side. The cause of this stroke was a Grade Four Brain Tumour. Rich had the tumour removed and underwent Radio Therapy and Chemotherapy believing with us all that he would survive. In January 2014 he was given the devastating news that the Tumour had returned and nothing else could be done. Rich hung on to life making the most of the time he had with his wife, young daughter and family for six months.
Rich sadly passed away in July 2014 aged just 41, leaving his wife and two year old daughter.
When Rich died he left a massive hole in both myself and Martyn's lives and hearts. The feeling of loss to this day cannot be measured. When we were kids, there were always adventures, the three of us were always together usually getting into trouble, on holidays or just at the weekends. Of the three of us, Rich was the youngest, the most relaxed and the most adventurous. It is with the challenge of climbing Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the EU at 4810m (15,781ft), Martyn and myself want to raise money and awareness for the Brain Tumour Charity. We hope that just one person might not have to endure the pain and suffering Rich, his family and friends went through. This will be the adventure Rich missed out on, but he will be with us both, in our hearts spurring us on to the summit and back.
Martyn and I are funding the climb ourselves, to ensure that all the money raised will go to the Brain Tumour Charity to continue their invaluable work.
