Story
My involvement in this worthy cause is because my partner Anne`s younger brother Ian Montgomery passed away 16 years ago after a very brave battle with Motor Neurone Disease ( MND ). Living with the knowledge there was no cure was heart-breaking, and watching the effect on Ian and the family was so difficult knowing there was nothing that could be done. So this cause is very special to me and by participating I hope to raise much needed funds and importantly awareness about this disease.
I originally became involved with the My Name5 Doddie Foundation in Oct 2020 when I cycled The Long Weekend, 405 miles around Northern Ireland in 3 days. That was followed in July 2021 by the Great Rugby Cycle Ireland when we covered over 1000 miles in 10 days round Ireland.
The Great Rugby Cycle 2022 will cover over 700 miles in clockwise direction around Wales in 8 days, taking in some of the finest scenery & hills Wales has to offer. The peloton will be joined along the route by some rugby legends helping to raise awareness and funds for the My Name5 Doddie Foundation.
As part of my training for this event I along with 2 very close friends completed the Chase the Sun cycle event in June this year were we cycled 209 miles in 1 day ( June 18 ).
Ian`s family and friends have raised monies in his memory previously and I`m hoping my participation in both the events mentioned above will help raise additional monies that will go towards research into the disease.
