Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
My first contact with the Hospice was when my mum was admitted in 1993 for the last couple of weeks of her life. Eight years ago, once I felt it was the right time, I joined the many volunteers giving up half a day a week to help out. Eventually I became a member of staff, but continue to work on the In-Patient Unit every Tuesday as a volunteer.
The hospice continues to help so many people like my mum - and I want to do my bit extra to help them too. I am therefore going on a Trek in Nepal - consisting of walking 60 miles over 6 days. Every body will know that I do like my luxury hotels - and the thought of sleeping in a tent is certainly not my idea of fun. The weather could be below freezing overnight, rising to 20 degrees or so during the day. Although our tents are carried to the next stop for us - we have to carry our own back-packs and clothing as we strip off the layers during the day, together with 2 litres of drinking water. Washing facilities will be rather primitive (no en-suite bathroom in our tents!) and not even a hairdryer. We will be walking several hours a day, gradually increasing to 8-9 hours in one day.
I am therefore asking for your support and would appreciate every pound you can help me with. I aim to raise a minimum of £1,000 for the hospice as a way of saying "Thanks for looking after my mum" all those years ago - and to help look after others like her in the future.
