Story
A Precious Child is a Colorado nonprofit making a difference in our community by providing opportunities to kids to achieve their full potential. They recognize that empowering a child means listening to and supporting the whole family in their path to self-sufficiency.
As a result, they are constantly evolving and refining their services to meet the needs of the community - from responding to disasters in the community to refining daily service offerings. In 2013, they helped those displaced by the floods. Through-out the COVID-19 pandemic, they have provided hygiene and cleaning supplies (servicing 42,000 people with over $846,000 worth of supplies) to those in need. Today, they have stepped in as a lead organization in the efforts to identify and support residents impacted by the recent fires. A Precious Child has taken over the former Nordstrom at Flatirons Mall to run the Boulder Fire and High Wind Disaster Relief Donation and Resource Center, in coordination with the Colorado Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Management, FEMA, and Adventist Community Services
As part of their normal course, they deliver a variety of services to help:
- basics of food, gently used clothing and household goods, and diapers and wipes;
- seasonal items including fully loaded school backpacks, gifts (birthday and holiday), sporting equipment, and sport/art scholarships;
- more intentional empowerment activities of STEM related materials, mentorship opportunities, a career development program; and
- incremental services to help parents navigate a path to self-sufficiency.
Each year, they provide opportunities and resources valued at millions of dollars to more than 46,000 underprivileged children and 5,000 adult caregivers
