A Message from Scott Cairns, Group Managing Director...
Some months ago I met the people from ‘Maggie’s’. Maggie’s is a charity that offers practical help and support to those either suffering from cancer or to those who are in that person’s family or friends network.
Practical help that covers real life problems, every aspect of the
physical and psychological trauma of dealing with this disease as well as the practical challenges of living with treatment whilst having to work or not being able to work. Where to turn for help navigating the benefits system, the NHS and the life challenges in dealing with such a terrible disease. Support is offered to anyone that needs it. You can simply walk into a Maggie’s Centre and ask for help to talk about something that fundamentally changes our lives… cancer.
Why is this applicable to us?
- The statistics of cancer are stark. One in two of us will suffer with this disease in our lifetime and if we extend that to our families and wider circle of friends it is going to affect us all, if it isn’t already doing so. I have experienced cancer several times with my own family and friends and the consequences of this affected me deeply. There must be so many of you out there with your own personal story also.
- When I looked at the Maggie’s network of centres they are ‘nationally’ placed extremely well in relation and location to our own sites. There are 18 centres throughout the country with another 6 in development. This makes our support of this charity local, as we would be supporting and working for a centre where in all likelihood your family or friends could use its services in the future.
So, in supporting this cause we can coordinate and challenge ourselves nationally whilst having a very local tie-in to raising some funds.
For every £1 that you raise, James Donaldson & Sons Ltd will match it up to a total of £25,000.
Thank you so much,
Scott
