Just after Christmas in 2017 my eight year old daughter (Ellie) suddenly became ill. She had started to drink a lot and developed a severe headache. After a round of hospital tests she was quickly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. As a result she now has to inject herself four times a day along with numerous finger pricks to keep your blood sugars under constant control.
This obviously came as a huge shock to us and has meant that our life has once again dramatically changed. Although Ellie has dealt with it fantastically it is a lot to cope with so soon after we lost her sister Charlotte.
So, in my 40th year I have lined up a number of physical challenges for 2019 and any support you can give me and JDRF really would be appreciated.
JDRF are committed to eradicating type 1 diabetes and its affects for everyone on the UK with type 1, and at risk of developing it. They fund world class research and ensuring it moves forward as fast as possible. They also give support to people with type 1 and their families. We have received invaluable support from JDRF and the diabetes community over the past year as we attempt to make sense of this condition.
Less than a hundred years ago the onset of Diabetes would result in premature death. Its is my hope that the continued research will eventually find a cure so that my daughter doesn't have to grow up with this horrible condition.
