Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year I am running my 13th consecutive Great North Run for Arthritis Research UK, a charity that: funds research; provides education; and influences policy for the benefit of all people with arthritic illnesses both common (such as osteoarthritis or 'wear and tear') and rare (such as systemic sclerosis and other multisystem diseases). These illnesses not only significantly reduce the quality of life of sufferers but, in some cases, can reduce life expectancy. Due in no small part to the work of Arthritis Research UK, treatments have advanced dramatically over the past 20 years, but there is still no cure for any of these conditions.
You have been very generous over my previous twelve attempts at this half marathon, helping me to raise well over £20,000, and I am most grateful for your continued support.
This year's run will be particularly poignant as I am running it in memory of my mum, who died after a short illness on 16th August 2017. She always watched the event on TV, hoping to spot me amongst the 55,000 other runners!
