Story
On 2nd April 2023, we will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in support of Evelina London Children's Charity.
Last year, on 13th June 2022, Ali welcomed his son, Jack, into the world. Jack was born extremely prematurely at just 24 weeks and 2 days and he fought so hard to overcome all of the obstacles thrown his way but his little body just wasn't ready for the world yet. After 5 weeks and 1 day, Ali and his wife, Laura, were forced to make the hardest decision imaginable as parents and said goodnight to their beautiful boy to save him from any pain and suffering.
It was the team at Evelina London that gave Alistair and Laura 5 weeks and 1 day with Jack. Because of Evelina, they were able to get to know their boy and his little personality, they were able to feed him and change his nappy, they held Jack's hand and saw him open his eyes. Ali and Laura had time for cuddles and to tell Jack how loved he is. They were also able to say goodbye on their own terms.
That time together with Jack and those memories are priceless. It is these memories that give Alistair and Laura much-needed strength as they navigate a world without their son.
The work Evelina London does every day gives families a chance to make memories that can be treasured for a lifetime. It gives families hope that they may be able to overcome the odds and bring their baby home. Fundraising directly supports research and resources at Evelina London and allows the team to keep helping families and to keep babies like Jack in the fight. The team there are nothing short of incredible.
