Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I was inspired to enter my 14th (and probably my last) Great North half-marathon by my friend Andy Daly, whose life changed beyond recognition after his accident in March. A trip and a fall down the stairs was all it took.

Headway have been involved with Andy from the start (he remains in the High Dependency Unit at James Cook Hospital, Middlesborough). They are a significant UK charity (James Cracknell is Vice President) dedicated to helping brain trauma survivors to regain some quality of life through a wide range of services, including rehabilitation programmes, carer support, social re-integration, community outreach and respite care.

Andy’s accident has brought home to his family and friends how vulnerable we are and for most of us the world of brain trauma injuries is new, dark and frightening. I am running the Great North this year for all those whose lives have been changed so unexpectedly by brain trauma, many of whom are supported by Headway.

Please be generous and do what you can for Headway, Andy and all who suffer from brain trauma.
