Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I’d like to tell you about a little dance competition that’s getting bigger and bigger by the year. You’ve no doubt all heard of Strictly Come
Dancing on the BBC, but have you heard of Strictly Goes to the Movies?
Strictly Goes to the Movies is a fund raising event, organised by Shelter. I work for The Sovini Group, a property development and management company with social housing at its heart, who have supported this event in the past.
In November, I will be following in the footsteps (and hopefully dance
steps) of my colleagues who have confidently and gracefully stepped up and owned the dancefloor, to offer their support in recent years. Drawing inspiration from their bravery, I have agreed to “throw my hat into the ring” and, as a (very) former tap dancer, I shall be putting my tap shoes to the back of the wardrobe, trying to forget everything I have learned, and attempting to acquire a new skill, when, in September, alongside other contestants, I will be paired with a professional partner. After six weeks of training we will all grace the dance floor of the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool on Saturday evening 25th November 2023 and perform our chosen dances, to music from the movies, in the hope of winning votes from professional judges and members of the audience, in order to get the chance to lift the glitter ball.
Why am I doing this? Well, taking part in Strictly may be a dream of mine, but some people dream of having a safe, healthy and secure home of their own and, sadly, for some of them, this basic need remains a dream. Shelter are there for these people and champion their right to a decent place to live.
For this reason if you can donate I will be eternally grateful and promise to make every fleckerl, volta and chasse cape count - for you, for Shelter and for the people who need them.
