A run for Mum

London Marathon 2019 · 28 April 2019 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
At the age of 67 my lovely Mum was diagnosed with Lewy Body disease. This beast of an illness is a combination of Dementia & Parkinson symptoms.
It has already had a massive effect on Mums mobility, along with confusion , hallucinations , disturbed sleep and in the future loss of memory.
I was in total shock after the diagnosis. I couldn’t believe this was happening to my Mum. Up to this point she was physically & mentally healthy. The reality was that all of our lives changed from this moment. I can’t describe how stressful , exhausting , emotional & heartbreaking it is to care for Mum on a daily basis & to see this wretched disease take over her mind & body. It’s painful to watch. .
I take great comfort in knowing that as a family we are working together to provide Mum with the best care that she deserves.
Dementia is such a cruel disease. I always thought it was a disease you get in old age but that is a myth. 1 in 3 people will have a diagnosis of dementia so it could affect any one of our loved ones in the future.
I want to do as much as I can to raise money to help fund researchers so they can make a breakthrough in new treatments to help slow down the process and ultimately find a cure for our generation.
I have been so lucky on my dementia journey to have had such amazing support from my family & friends and this has really kept me going some days. I really thank you all for the part you play in helping my family.
I am not new to running but I am no natural runner so I’m going to have to work really hard to train for this distance...it will be the biggest personal challenge of my life in more ways than one !
Please support me in finding a cure for dementia and donate whatever you can. Any amount will be so greatly appreciated.
For you Mum 💙
