Story

Team Sully Skydive

On 16 June on the spur of the moment I signed up for the skydiving challenge with Acacia and immediately felt sick and questioned what on earth I was doing!! I am not taking the decision to do this lightly by any means and it’s well out of my comfort zone!!

When I told my family, my husband’s response was ‘Can I be the one to push you out of the plane’?!! and the girls’ response was ‘can we do it too?!’

So myself Olivia and Caitlin as ‘Team Sully’ will be jumping out of a plane on 17 July to raise much needed funds for the charity I work for - Acacia Family Support.

Many of you know that I have been part of Acacia for many years – 14 now. I started as a volunteer at the Walmley Centre and then after much begging to Emma and Rachel, our co-founders, I was taken on as staff working alongside Emma. Then nearly 10 years ago I moved into my current role of managing the Walmley Centre.

Over the years I have met some wonderful families at Acacia. Families who have come to us at a time of need when they are unwell with their mental health whilst pregnant or after having their baby. It has been an honour and privilege to journey with these families. Alongside my amazing team of volunteers and staff at Walmley Centre, and across the whole organisation, we have supported hundreds of Acacia families, giving them hope, showing kindness, care and compassion, listening to them without judgement, and equipping them with tools and strategies to help them every day with their mental health. I have seen first hand how Acacia helps
to improve the lives of our families and how grateful our families are for the support, love and care shown to them.

A few days after signing up for the skydive, we had the devastating news at Acacia that one of our Acacia family had sadly passed away on Saturday 19 June.

Becky Plummer was a truly special and inspirational lady. She was gentle, kind, caring, humble and gracious in all she did, and a wonderful wife to Lee, and mother to Calen-Mei and Zachary. (please see our Acacia tribute to her below).

Becky and Lee have been involved with Acacia for the last 11 years or so, and our loss of this beautiful soul is most definitely heaven’s gain.

Becky did the skydive for Acacia 2 years ago, and so we, Team Sully, would like to dedicate our skydive in her loving memory x

It is with a heavy heart that we share with you some very sad news that Becky Plummer, the wife of Lee Plummer our previous Chair of Trustees, died very suddenly over the weekend.(23/08/1976 - 19/06/2021) We are deeply saddened by the loss of Becky and heartbroken for Lee, and their two children.
Becky and Lee have been a huge part of Acacia's story with a history going back many years. Both Becky and Lee used our services and then went on to support us and have been involved in so many ways over the years, becoming very dear friends to us. They both gave so much of their time to support our work by sharing their story of postnatal depression with courage and vulnerability at Acacia's volunteers training events, our conferences, the 2 Acacia Balls and in many other situations. Lee went on to become the Chair of Trustees until Georgina took over in 2019. In the same year, Becky did a skydive for us as a fundraiser and only a few months ago, signed up to take part in the London Marathon fundraiser for us later this year.
Words cant express how much we loved and cared for Becky and we hope you will join us in praying for their whole family in the coming days and weeks.

Hi everyone.
A bit late to the party (who me!!?🤣) with just 2 places left, myself Olivia and Caitlin have signed up to do the Acacia skydiving challenge on 17 July. 😱😱😱 And before anyone is rude and tells me I can’t add up - they added an extra place so I didn’t have to deal with WW3 breaking out in my house!!! 🤣🤣🤣
It’s one of those thngs that is probably on many people’s bucket lists - and the sensible ones of you out there will keep it firmly on your bucket list unticked!!
Am I having doubts? Am I bricking it? Do I feel sick thinking about it? Yes Yes Yes!!
But then I shift my focus onto why I am doing it. I tap into the warm fuzzy feelings I get when I think about the Acacia families who come to us needing help and support and leave feeling better than when they came and my small part in that journey. It gives me such joy.
I also focus on who we as Team Sully are dedicating our skydive to. We do this in loving memory of Becky Plummer - an amazingly brave and inspirational lady who died 9 days ago on Saturday 19 June. ❤️ She had been part of our Acacia family for the last 11 years and I was lucky to have known her and be inspired by her. We follow in her brave footsteps doing our skydive as she did one for Acacia 2 years ago.
So - this is the bit where I beg, I mean ask nicely if you would be able to support us doing our skydive. Any amount no matter how small will be hugely appreciated.
Thank you so much
Jayne Olivia and Caitlin
😘😘😘
