Story
So 11 years ago, scared confused and broken I asked for help. I found a 12 step program that supported helped and saved me. The journey of recovery is a daily process and more gets revealed each day. It is the greatest thing in my life and without recovery I wouldn't be able to be myself and I dread to think what would happen.
Addiction took a lot things and time from me and I do not think enough is understood in our society about the illness and what it entails. The substance is the symptom not the cause. The journey of recovery is about uncovering the cause slowly with support from others who have been there. Getting support and becoming the person you were born to be.
I was blown away when I was working in the North East to come across The George Street Social and the Recovery Trust. The space is brilliant, not a plastic cup in sight. But more it is the ethos behind it. You are not alone and we are here for you. There is always someone there and meetings go on all through the day. I wanted to give back, finally at 11 I felt I need to help others. Sometimes quickly sometimes slowly. So in my small way I felt I could try and raise some money to help this charity. The North East has the highest drug/alcohol related deaths in England. It needs this so much. A light in the party town for recovery.
Please support me running this. I have never done anything like this in my life so it would mean so much and tthe training is going well. I sha;; update this page as I go on. The furthest I have run so far is 6.5 miles which blows my mind as I was a complete running beginner last month.
So this is the charity blurb: The Road to Recovery Trust is a network of individuals inspired by the transformative effects of 12 step recovery in their own lives. Its aim is to bridge the gap between those who have found recovery and those who still suffer unaware that a solution exists.
Fabulous, if you can please give something no matter how small. Thank you so much xxx
