Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 28th June 2011 we very sadly lost our wonderful Dad to cancer.

28th June 2014 will mark the 3rd Anniversary of Dads passing and the 10 year Anniversary of St Lukes Midnight Walk.

I have no idea how I will be feeling on the night, but what better way to thank St Lukes for the invaluable respite care they gave Dad in his final days than to raise money for the hospice by taking part in the Midnight Walk.

Dad was in awe of the work of the nurses at St Lukes and I have no doubt of the amount of pride he would have knowing money was being raised for the hospice in his memory.

Through the latter stages of his illness, Dad received respite care at St Luke's Hospice and ultimately this was the place where he chose to spend his final days.  He received the best care possible but over and above this he found peace, solace and a great sense of safety and reassurance at the Hospice.

I was so grateful for the chance to spend time with Dad at the Hospice along with all of my sisters, my brothers and my Aunt Chris & Uncle Tim, we all shared a really strong bond being there for Dad and each other!  The doors were open to us 24 hours a day and in the final day's of Dad's life we were able to stay around the clock just to be with him, hold his hand, talk to him and say goodbye.

I will always owe a huge debt to the Hospice and all its staff for the comfort that Dad found there and the care and support they offered to us just as we needed it most.

Dad was fortunate to have been provided with 1 of the 10 in-patient beds the Hospice has.  I don't know what we would have done or how we would have coped without this.  The care the Hospice provides is invaluable and should be available to anyone who needs it!

What really amazes me is that the Hospice is supported almost entirely by charitable donations.  It costs £6,500 per day to provide patient care and 74% of this is provided by charitable donations.

At the moment, the Hospice has a donation shortfall.  If you can, please donate...every single donation no matter how small will help.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Please dig deep and Thank you!
