Story
“This is a little bit out of my comfort zone, a few months ago I would’ve never done this. But do you know what? This is bigger than me, I haven’t got much time and I’m not insecure anymore. When you know you’re dying, insecurities really don’t matter.” - Hayley Smith
Hayley was diagnosed with cancer in December 2020 and sadly passed away because of it in July 2021. I started following her on social media earlier this year when a few celebrities and news platforms shared her story. She had posted a video detailing her experience from the time she was diagnosed, and sharing her advice for anyone that was going through anything similar. I was extremely touched by Hayley’s story because she was only 29 years old when she learned about the tumour, yet she made peace with the situation and decided to live the remainder of her life on her own terms.
The above quote from Hayley’s video has stuck with me ever since I watched it. It changed my perspective on many things that I am/was insecure about, and made me want to get over them. Hayley didn’t have much time left, despite that she wanted to dedicate the remainder of her time to helping others. I too want to do the same as God has blessed me with a healthy body which must be used to bring about positive change in the world. Hence, when I saw the 3000 Push-ups challenge advert I knew I wanted to do it even though it was way out of my comfort zone.
Details about Teenage Cancer Trust and all the wonderful work they do for young people can be found by clicking on their logo on the top right. An ocean is made up of many drops, therefore I would be grateful for any amount of donation. If you can not donate, just taking some time to read about the charity and raising awareness is also extremely appreciated.
