Story
That's all folks! All done and ridden and every mile counted for. All 106.77 miles of it! The ride might be over but my fundraising page is still active for making donatons. Here you will be able to see and read about just what we got up too.

Over the course of two days this Summer - Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th August - I will be cycling from Dover to Dorking along 'The North Downs Way' in aid of the Haemophilia Society along with another fundraising group called 'Blood, Sweat & Tyres' who are also raising money for The Haemophilia Society. My best friend Lee is going to be acting as support vehicle driver and his Boss Martin has kindly lent us the use of his companies van. Thank you Lee & Martin.

Route
The route I shall be cycling is about 104 miles from Dover to Dorking via Canterbury through the Kent Downs & the Surrey Hills. Much of the trail follows the Pilgrims Way, the legendary route that was used by pilgrims on their way from Winchester to Canterbury to pray at the shrine of St Thomas Becket.

Haemophilia & how it has affected me
Haemophilia is a blood condition in which an essential clotting factor is either partly or completely missing and can effect men as well as women (von Williebrand's Disorder). The partial or complete lack of essential clotting factors causes a person with haemophilia to bleed for longer than normal and the main problem with this is internal bleeding into joints, muscles and soft tissues: if left untreated these bleeds cause acute pain and severe joint damage leading to permanent disability. And as you can imagine, women haemophiliacs (vWd) have all this to live with and more to boot. And us men thought we had it bad;)

I was born with severe haemophilia A in 1971 & diagnosed when I was 2yrs old. And although my Mum & Dad tried their best to protect me from bleeding too much I have been left with damage into my ankle joints and right elbow causing much restriction in movement and considerable pain in simple everyday activities like walking etc. I still feel I am one of the lucky ones as I am still able to get about and even cycle quite a lot. I have always been a keen cyclist & kayaker and often regard my bike & boat as my real legs and arms.
